The results of the autumn draft were summed up on Thursday at the Ministry of Defense. The Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Colonel-General Vasily Smirnov, said that the plan was fulfilled, but more than 200 thousand people were fleeing from the army - almost as many as they went to serve.
In total, 278,821 people left to pay their debt to the Motherland - the appeal, according to Vasily Smirnov, has been fulfilled. The general also denied information that the internal troops (they are staffed with recruits of the Ministry of Defense) did not receive the planned number of conscripts. “We have fulfilled their request 100%,” said the Deputy Chief of the General Staff. Although earlier the High Command of Internal Troops stated that the plan for the autumn conscription was not fulfilled. Initially, it was planned to send 27 thousand people to them. Later, the plan was reduced to 20 thousand, and as a result, only 18, 5 thousand recruits were admitted there. The General Staff allegedly explains the situation by the fact that the number of recruits is sorely lacking.
General Smirnov said that now the number of draft deviators is record high - more than 200 thousand - the figure is rapidly approaching the number of those who went to the army.
- We are very worried about the problem of draft evaders. In the fall, only 80 criminal cases were initiated against citizens who dodged the draft, and only 74 people were convicted during the draft, General Smirnov complained. - We had to release more than 30 percent of the guys from military service for health reasons.
United Russia will apparently help to solve the problem of draft evaders of the Ministry of Defense, whose deputies have introduced a bill to increase the term of the spring conscription by one and a half months - that is, from April 1 to August 31, and not to July 15, as is happening now. General Smirnov said that most likely the draft will be extended, the Ministry of Defense, at least, is asking for it very much. The Deputy Chief of the General Staff explained this desire of the Ministry of Defense by the fact that it is necessary to streamline the work of training units in the army - if earlier soldiers were trained in them for five months, now it is planned to transfer them to three-month training in centers.
By the way, the Moscow mayor's office will also help the military department "hunt" for draft deviators. Sergei Sobyanin signed an order on the initial military registration of citizens born in 1994 and older citizens who did not come to the city military registration and enlistment offices on time. In total, there are about 40 thousand draft deviators in the capital. The Moscow Mayor instructed the police and military registration and enlistment offices to search for them not only during the call, but all year round.
