Military educational institutions

The training of personnel for the Navy is carried out by the Naval Academy. Nakhimova (Sevastopol), the department of military training of the Odessa Naval Academy and the naval college at the Naval Institute named after V. I. Nakhimov (warrant officers and warrant officers) and the naval lyceum.

The number of the Ukrainian Navy is more than 14,500 people.

The Ukrainian Navy is not in its most attractive form today. However, in recent years the situation does not look as catastrophic as, say, 5 or 10 years ago.

What, in such a situation, allows us to speak about positive tendencies? The same objective facts. The number of various exercises, mainly international, in which the Naval Forces of Ukraine take part in recent years, is a record one and surpasses the indicators for all other branches of the armed forces. From 1994 to 2013 alone, the Ukrainian Navy was involved in more than 2000 events of international military cooperation.

Every year the number of flight hours of naval aviation crews and the flotation of Ukrainian warships are steadily increasing. Hundreds of Ukrainian naval specialists are trained and trained abroad.

Almost all of the warships and boats that are part of the Naval Forces of Ukraine were received during the division of the Black Sea Fleet. Most of them are over 25 years old. The most "running" are: the frigate "Getman Sagaidachny", the corvettes "Lutsk" and "Ternopil", as well as the large landing ship "Konstantin Olshansky.

The strike surface forces of the Ukrainian Navy currently include the Pridneprovye missile corvette and the Priluki missile boat.

At the end of 2013, a large number of ships of the Ukrainian Navy were repaired. More than ten were commissioned.

With the aim of updating the ship's composition, a program was launched to create ships of the "corvette" class, at the Black Sea Shipyard (ChSZ) it is planned to build 4 ships of the "corvette" class by 2021.

In 2011, a solemn ceremony of laying the main ship was carried out. As a result of the implementation of the Program, 4 ships of Project 58250 will be built, 5 sets of ammunition purchased, which include guided artillery rounds of small and medium caliber, anti-submarine and anti-ship torpedoes, missiles for strike and anti-aircraft missile systems. A ship basing system has been created (two berths have been built).

The first ship of the "corvette" class is planned to be commissioned by 2017

Image
Image

Project 58250 corvettes are a promising type of corvettes of the Ukrainian naval forces (Ukrainian Navy), developed by the Shipbuilding Experimental Design Center in the city of Nikolaev.

The displacement of the ship is more than 2, 5 thousand tons, the length is about 110 m, the crew is about 110 people. The corvette will be equipped with anti-ship missiles, guided anti-aircraft missiles, medium and small caliber artillery, anti-submarine weapons, a powerful radio-electronic system, and a carrier-based helicopter with a hangar. The equipment will be about 60% Ukrainian.

In accordance with the State Target Program "Arrangement and Reconstruction of the State Border" and the Concept for the Development of the State Border Service of Ukraine, to update the ship-and-boat staff of the Maritime Guard by 2020, it is planned to build 6 Coral ships, 8 Orlan boats, 25 other boats of modern projects. In addition, from 2015, for the needs of the State Border Service of Ukraine, it is planned to begin construction of a multifunctional ship with a displacement of about 1000 tons, on board of which the basing of a helicopter is envisaged.

To replace the boats of the project 1400 "Grif" came small border boats of the project 58130 "Orlan" in 2012, the first boat was transferred to the Sevastopol detachment of the Maritime Guard.

Image
Image

Also in 2012 at the Feodosia production association "More" was laid down the first ship of the maritime security "Coral"

Image
Image

It is planned that the "Coral" will weigh up to 310 tons and reach speeds of up to 30 knots (more than 55 km / h). It will be equipped with an automated control system and modern technical equipment. The number of the Coral's crew is up to 20 people. This is two times less than on today's ships of the Ukrainian border service, the department says. The construction of such a vessel will cost about 300 million hryvnia.

Also in 2012, the laying of the first two small armored artillery boats of project 58155 ("Gyurza-M"), intended for the Ukrainian Navy, took place at the Leninskaya Kuznitsa Plant OJSC in Kiev. The boats are planned to be used for solving problems in the Danube River basin and in the coastal zone of the Black and Azov Seas. By 2017, it is planned to build nine boats of the Gyurza-M type for the Ukrainian Navy.

Image
Image

The armored boat of project 58155 ("Gyurza-M") was developed by the Ukrainian enterprise "State Research and Design Center for Shipbuilding" (Nikolaev) and is a further development of the boats of Project 58150 ("Gyurza"), two of which were built by Leninskaya Kuznitsa in 2004 for Border Service of Uzbekistan with American funding ($ 5, 6 million). The boat of project 58155 ("Gyurza-M") is larger than its prototype, and has a total displacement of 50.7 tons, a length of 23 meters, a width of 4.8 meters and a draft of 1 meter. The maximum speed of the "Gyurza-M" is up to 25 knots, the cruising range is 700 miles, the autonomy is five days. The crew is only five people. The boat is armed with two remotely controlled sea combat modules BM-5M.01 "Katran-M" manufactured by SE "Nikolaev Mechanical Repair Plant", which is a variant of the combat module BM-3 "Shturm" for armored vehicles. Each Katran-M module includes a 30-mm ZTM1 automatic cannon, a 30-mm automatic grenade launcher and a 7.62-mm KT machine gun, as well as two Barrier ATGMs with a laser guidance system. The boat is equipped with an optical-electronic fire control system and also has a set of portable air defense systems.

In 2013, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine terminated the contract with the Leninskaya Kuznitsa plant, the press service of the Ministry of Defense said that the state commission was not satisfied with the quality of the enterprise's work. In addition, there were problems with the technical documentation for the armament.

The order for boats of project 58155 will be placed at another enterprise

The fate of the unique anti-submarine ships of the Sokol project remains unclear.

corvettes "Lviv" and "Lugansk".

The first ship is almost ready, however, now its production has been suspended due to lack of funding.

The Sokol project ship is the world's largest hydrofoil vessel. The ship is 50 meters long and 10 meters wide. The vessel, due to three gas turbines with a capacity of 10 thousand horsepower and two of 20 thousand, is capable of reaching a speed of more than 60 knots.

Image
Image

The ship has the largest titanium alloy wing system, on which the ship can sail in waves of more than 4 meters. Due to the high speed of movement, the vessel in the shortest possible time reaches the positions from which the submarine is hit with a high probability.

In service are: an automatic gun mount AK-176 (76, 2 mm), an automatic six-barreled gun mount AK-630M, two four-tube torpedo launchers with a caliber of 400 mm, an automated system for detecting and controlling artillery fire, an automated system for detecting and controlling anti-submarine weapons, as well as two portable air defense systems.

Image
Image

The ships have a readiness degree of 95-98% and 30%, respectively.

The majority of the ship's personnel are frigates, corvettes (MPCs), mine-sweeping and landing ships, which are capable of solving tasks of controlling the economic zone, conducting defensive mine laying, including off the coast of Crimea, and amphibious landing operations of a tactical scale.

In modern conditions, with the development of the Ukrainian Navy, the main emphasis is placed on the creation of powerful coastal troops, including in the Crimea, which does not require such significant financial costs as for the construction or procurement of modern warships.
