Submachine gun yesterday, today, tomorrow. Submachine guns from different countries and continents are often very similar, like twin brothers. But they say about each that it is he who is better than all the others. Today we will look at the CBJ-MS submachine guns in 6.5x25 CBJ-MS of the Swedish company CBJ Tech AB and CPW Kinetics, which is offered by ST Kinetics from Singapore, and in several calibers at once: 9 × 19 mm Parabellum, 5, 7 × 28 mm and 4, 6 × 30 mm. In the previous article "Submachine guns of the era of change and cartridges for them" we looked at it a little. But not too detailed and without comparison with analogs. Today we will fill this gap …

With traditional Swedish quality

As you know, Sweden has created in the past and is still creating many interesting types of weapons, always of high, "Swedish" quality. So the SAAB-Bofors concern first took up the creation of a new submachine gun for the British army. But when the British decided to abandon it, CBJ Tech AB took over the new submachine gun, designated CBJ-MS PDW (Personal Defense Weapon). The result was the original PP chambered for 6.5x25 CBJ-MS, which is also used in Glock pistols and HK MP5 submachine guns.

It's hard to come up with something new, so why not improve the known?

Today it is difficult to come up with something “like”, “inconsistent with anything,” which would not have been invented, therefore, many structural improvements come down not to the structure itself, and not even to the production technology, but to design. So there is nothing revolutionary about the CBJ-MS submachine gun. A free breechblock is used, and shooting occurs from an open breechblock. USM allows you to shoot in bursts and single fire. To select the shooting mode, you do not need to press any "buttons". Everything is reduced to pressing the trigger: pressed hard - you get burst of shots; if the pressure is weak - a single shot. Convenient, to be sure. No need to move any "levers". It has become fashionable for a long time, so that the cocking handle of the shutter remains stationary during firing. But here it was transferred to the back of the receiver and given a characteristic conical shape. Since the front handle for holding is located so that the shooter's hand can accidentally touch the red-hot barrel, a safety plate was placed under it. The receiver is made of stainless steel by stamping, which increases the strength of the weapon.

Universal handles and 100-cartridge magazine

The magazine, like the Uzi, at Ingram is located in the pistol grip, which traditionally reduces the size of the weapon. But here's what's interesting: the designers thought of inserting the spare magazine into the front handle for holding, and this can already be considered one of the highlights of this design. This arrangement saves time on recharging. Yes, very little. But such savings are better than none! As for the stores for CBJ-MS, they are used with double-row filling with cartridges for 30 and 20 rounds. However, there is also a drum magazine for 100 rounds with a long neck, which also fits into the handle. Well, the shoulder rest is the simplest, it is nowhere easier, made of steel wire, but on the receiver there is a Picatinny rail (where is it now without it?) To attach a collimator sight to this PP or whoever wishes anything there. Moreover, this submachine gun includes … a bipod and a quick-detachable barrel! So you can shoot from it for a long time, a lot and tastefully - leaning on the bipod, and the overheated barrel can be quickly replaced with a new one!

In fact, the Swedes got the same "Uzi", but their own, "Swedish", and with the ability to conduct long machine-gun fire and more ergonomic, in accordance with the requirements of the time. Even his color is green, which today is another trend: to create weapons in camouflage livery.

The patron is the head of everything

However, the most interesting thing about this submachine gun is not its design, but the small-caliber cartridge used in it, which has a very high muzzle velocity of the bullet, which is made of … tungsten alloy and fixed in a plastic pallet. Moreover, the diameter of the bullet is not just small, compared to other bullets for submachine guns, but very small - only some 4-mm, and this despite the fact that the diameter of the barrel bore is already only 6, 5-mm. That is, the bullet for this sub-machine gun is also sub-caliber, and it is not surprising that its muzzle velocity is higher than that of the Mosin rifle - 830 m / s, although the barrel itself is only 200 mm long. The liner for the new cartridge is based on a 9x19 liner, but with a long barrel, re-crimped to 6.5 mm. Naturally, the recoil of such a cartridge when fired is very small, and the accuracy of automatic fire, as well as the accuracy of single shots, increases in the most significant way.

In addition, with this cartridge, this submachine gun has an impressive effective range, which is 300-400 meters for it, which is twice the rating of the 9x19 cartridge. In addition, due to the high lateral load and the small diameter of the bullet, it has high flatness and penetrating action. At a distance of 230 meters, this bullet, for example, can easily penetrate a CRISAT-type body armor, and at a distance of 50 meters, a 7-mm thick armor plate.

However, it is not without reason that they say that there are spots on the Sun too. Everything would be fine, but due to the small caliber and high speed, the stopping effect of the bullets of this submachine gun is close to zero. Unless the bullet will definitely hit the head! True, it is possible to remake both the store and the PP itself chambered for the 9x19 caliber, and then "everything will return to normal": the stopping effect will be high, but the bulletproof vests will be too tough for him!

Now, for comparison, let's take a look at the Singaporean ST Kinetics submachine gun, first shown in 2008. Initially, it was created for the 9 × 19 mm Parabellum cartridge, but the design allows the use of 5, 7 × 28 mm, and even 4, 6 × 30 mm cartridges in it. It is enough to change the barrel, the bolt (and even then not all, but only the larva!) And the store.

Initially, it was supposed to be a self-defense weapon for those military personnel who, according to the state, are not entitled to an assault rifle. That is, this PP was created not for special units and the police, but for the army.

The semi-free shutter has a lever braking similar to the Kiraly shutter, which seems to reduce the recoil when firing. All "buttons" and levers "control according to the requirements of the time - two-way, both for right-handed and left-handed. The cocking handle of the "Singaporean" is also double-sided, except that the Swedish one is more original in design. There is a front handle, but the Singapore engineers did not guess to shove a spare store into it. But they came up with the idea of making the rear of the pistol grip transparent, which makes it possible to see the consumption of cartridges, because the magazine for the submachine gun is also made transparent. An original solution, you won’t say anything! The stock is more complicated than on the Swedish PP - it is retractable, telescopic. One Picatinny rail is used to mount the reflex sight, since there is no mechanical sight. The second bar is located at the bottom, it is precisely on it that the front handle is installed, although both a laser designator and a tactical flashlight can be installed, that is, the Singaporean model has more opportunities here than the Swedish one.

Among the disadvantages of the "Kinetics" experts note a too high rate of fire (900-1100 rpm), that is, a high consumption of cartridges, often completely unnecessary. But on the other hand, it has a relatively low weight, size and, together with a folded stock, it is easily carried like a pistol in a special holster.

Thus, we see that today in different parts of the planet, very far from each other, very similar structures are being created. As, however, before. Attempts are being made to use new cartridges, but … a cartridge for PP, universal in quality, has not yet been created anywhere. Attempts are being made to improve the accuracy of shooting, but, apparently, within the framework of the traditional design, everything that can be achieved has already been achieved. And if you use an unconventional approach? We will talk about this in the next article …
