There will always be a demand for semi-automatic rifles that are relatively accurate and use common ammunition. It seems that there are already an infinite number of similar samples, but they all appear and appear, and they are fundamentally no different from their predecessors. So, in fact, nothing supernova appears and everything is kept only by advertising, although sometimes interesting samples come across, but this is a rarity. In this article, we will try to get acquainted with another variation of the AR-10 based sniper rifle chambered for 7, 62x51 cartridges, however, with some differences and improvements.
Another series of sniper rifles appeared in 2010 thanks to the work of LWRC International. The weapon received the name Rapid Engagement Precision Rifle, which can be translated as "rapid-fire precision rifle" or something like that, abbreviated REPR. The weapon was immediately released in three versions: Sniper, DMR and Standart. They differ only in the lengths of the barrels, although many also note the difference in butts, but any butt can be installed, regardless of the modification of the weapon. So, the Sniper version is a rifle with a length of 1029-1054 millimeters with a barrel length of 508 millimeters. This is the longest and heaviest version of the weapon, therefore, and the most accurate, which is reflected in the name. The weight of the rifle without cartridges is 5, 11 kilograms. Option DMR (Designated Marksman Rifle) Has a barrel length of 457 millimeters, with a total rifle length of 978-1041 millimeters, and a weight of 4.76 kilograms. The Standard version of the weapon is the shortest, its total length is 952-1036 millimeters with a barrel length of 409 millimeters, and its weight is 4.31 kilograms. Also, the Standard version can be equipped with a shorter barrel 323 mm long, respectively, the total length of the weapon and its weight will become even less. All rifle variants are powered from detachable magazines with a capacity of 5, 10 or 20 rounds.
As is clear from what is written above, the total length of the weapon can vary within a fairly large range, which allows you to adjust the rifle to the build of a particular shooter. Such adjustment is achieved with the help of butts, which can be of various designs, including one that does not allow adjustment of the butt even in length. Among the various stock options, there are those that are stepped, smoothly adjustable, have an adjustable cheek rest, and even those that have a "third leg" under the stock. In general, due to the fact that there were a lot of stock options for the AR rifle family, in this case, you can observe a huge variety. If we talk about the appearance and ergonomics of the weapon, then it immediately becomes clear who the progenitor of these rifles is, there is even no need to guess. But there are also differences. First of all, the bolt cocking handle, located on the left side of the weapon in the form of a fairly large corrugated cylinder, catches the eye.
The angle of inclination of the handle was also changed, and the handle itself received replaceable backs to adapt to the size of the shooter's palm. The forend of the weapon is an octahedron, the upper edge of which is made with a non-removable mounting bar, which is a continuation of the mounting bar on the receiver. Thus, there is enough space for both a telescopic sight and a night sight. The side and bottom edges have holes for attaching additional picatinny rails. It is noteworthy that in the kit with the weapon there are open sights, consisting of a front sight and a diopter rear sight. These sighting devices are installed on the upper mount bar and can be folded, which allows them not to be removed when using a telescopic sight. So, if the optical sight fails, then you can simply remove it and immediately continue using the weapon, albeit at shorter distances. Standard bipods are also attached to the picatinny rail, but already on the lower one. True, instead of the mounting bar, you can install other options for mounting the bipod, so here you can also achieve a certain variety. Standard bipod foldable and adjustable in length.
Unlike AR-10 and AR-15, rifle automatics are built according to the scheme with the removal of powder gases from the bore with a short piston stroke. An interesting and most important feature was that the weapon has two modes, self-loading and manual reloading. These modes are controlled by the fuse switch, which has three positions - the two above and the inclusion of the fuse. Actually, the fact that the automatics of weapons have the ability to turn off, and quite convenient and fast, and makes this series of rifles interesting. Of course, in other models it is possible to lock the gas outlet in order to exclude the effect of moving parts on the accuracy of fire, but in few places this is implemented as conveniently as here, and in fact sometimes one accurate shot is required from the ordinary rifle itself, which automation does not give do.
