According to Interfax, Elena Makovetskaya (specialist of the press service of Sevmash), factory tests for the Yuri Dolgoruky nuclear submarine have been completed. According to Project 955 Borey, Yuri Dolgoruky became one of the first strategic nuclear submarine missile carriers.
As a result of the tests, one of the longest voyages at sea for the Yuri Dolgoruky nuclear submarine was completed. At the moment, the acceptance team, together with the crew, are busy preparing the submarine for acceptance by the state commission.
Let us remind you that the last sea trials of the Yuri Dolgoruky nuclear submarine were carried out in July 2010. When going to sea, the operation of the submarine's navigation complex, the system responsible for the buoyancy control and individual parameters of the nuclear submarine, was checked and adjusted. At the same time, the United Shipbuilding Corporation reported that the issue of accepting the missile carrier into the Russian Navy is not being considered at the moment, since the main armament of Yuri Dolgoruky has not yet been prepared.
Following the instructions of the Borey project, all submarines are to carry on board 16 R-30 Bulava ICBMs. Until the end of 2010, three test launches of new missiles should take place, however, the exact dates and times of the tests are still unknown. Previously, 12 Bulava test launches were made, of which only five were successful. According to preliminary data, the failure was caused by the disruption of the technological process during the assembly of the rocket, defects in the production of the rocket and low-quality raw materials.
Nuclear missile carriers under the Borei project should have a displacement of 24 thousand tons and can easily dive to a depth of 450 m. Submarines can reach speeds of up to 29 knots. In addition to the mines for the R-30 missiles, the submarines must accommodate six torpedo tubes. It should be noted that in the project 955 "Borey" engineers have introduced some changes. At the moment, the submarines "Alexander Nevsky" and "Vladimir Monomakh" are being created under the project 955A "Borey". They also plan to house 16 missile silos for ballistic missiles.
The Borey project does not stand still and is constantly being modernized. So, the fourth nuclear submarine "St. Nicholas" should be built according to the modernized project 955U "Borey". Approximately 20 silos for R-30 Bulava missiles are going to be installed on this submarine. This was reported by the press service of "Sevmash" in May 2010.
