The Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant (IEMZ) "Kupol" is in full swing mastering a new type of weapons - a modular version of the well-known air defense system "Tor". Work on the preparation of production facilities began in the IV quarter of 2012, the press service of the Izhevsk enterprise reported. For OJSC IEMZ Kupol, this production is, in fact, the modernization of an existing product - the Tor-M2E air defense missile system. The main difference between the new system is the lack of a chassis, that is, the ability to use this anti-aircraft missile system as a separate module to be mounted on various types of chassis, including the customer's chassis. At the same time, the Tor-M2KM complex can be placed permanently (without using the chassis).
The modularity of the new anti-aircraft missile system can significantly increase the mobility of the product, as well as interest in the placement of air defense systems in positions both within the country and abroad. Work on the creation of a new complex is carried out in accordance with the schedule, which, in addition to the production part itself, also contains a section for testing. At this point in time, for this version of the air defense system, a minimum set of tests was carried out, namely: work on overflights, sprinkling and alignment of the product. The main tests of the new Tor-M2KM will be carried out at the test site. With the development in production of the modular version of the popular air defense system "Tor-M2" at the Izhevsk enterprise, they expect to conclude contracts with both representatives of the Ministry of Defense of Russia and with foreign customers. which includes JSC IEMZ Kupol.
The country's top military leadership has already managed to get acquainted with the new complex. On January 24, 2013, a delegation from the Main Command of the Russian Ground Forces visited Izhevsk. The military visited the defense factories of Izhevsk: OJSC Izhevsk Mechanical Plant, OJSC NPO Izhmash, OJSC NITI Progress and OJSC IEMZ Kupol. As part of the visit to the Kupol, the military presented a report on the process of mastering a new product - the Tor-M2 air defense system, as well as its modifications on the Tor-M2K wheeled chassis, the Tor-M2U tracked chassis and the Tor-M2U modular design. М2КМ ". Later, in the assembly shops of the enterprise, General Director of IEMZ "Kupol" S. Vasiliev showed the members of the military delegation their full-scale samples. The commander-in-chief of the country's ground forces assessed the new simulator for the air defense system, as well as climatic chambers in which military equipment is tested in various temperature conditions (from minus 50ºC to plus 50ºC). The commander-in-chief also visited the production sites for the assembly of the antenna-launching device and the final assembly of the anti-aircraft missile systems.
During his trip to Izhevsk, the commander-in-chief of the ground forces met with the leadership of Udmurtia and discussed the prospects for the technical re-equipment of the Russian army with weapons produced in the republic. They also discussed the formation of the State Defense Order and the further development of the defense industry enterprises in the region.
Later, in February 2013, the Almaz-Antey Air Defense Concern took part in the International Aviation and Space Exhibition AERO INDIA - 2013. The exhibition was held from 6 to 11 February in Bangalore. The Russian concern presented at the exhibition a single exposition of all its enterprises. For the first time abroad, the Tor-M2KM short-range anti-aircraft missile system with technical and combat means in a modular design was demonstrated. When creating this complex, the Izhevsk enterprise of IEMZ Kupol OJSC used a large number of new design and technological solutions.
The new Russian air defense missile system "Tor-M2MK" is designed to build air defense of the most important state and military facilities and protect them from attacks by cruise missiles, anti-radar and other guided missiles, aircraft, helicopters, UAVs, guided and gliding bombs within the zone of destruction of the air defense missile system in any time of day, as well as in difficult jamming and meteorological conditions. The autonomous combat module (ABM) of the complex can be installed on the basis of an automobile chassis, trailer, semi-trailer or other platforms of suitable carrying capacity of Russian and foreign production. It is also possible to use this complex in a stationary version.
At the same time, this complex has a cross-country ability, which is able to provide the characteristics of the chassis or other platforms. SAM "Tor-M2MK" is able to provide detection, identification and tracking of air targets, as well as firing at them. It is an autonomous combat unit that can be used to carry out the entire range of air defense missions both autonomously and as part of various anti-aircraft groupings of forces and assets.
An autonomous combat module is an all-weather, autonomous vehicle with sufficient firepower and noise immunity, a short reaction time from the moment a target is detected to the launch of an anti-aircraft missile, a short time of putting on combat readiness, a high probability of hitting air targets in a wide range of possible altitudes and flight speeds (in affected area). An electro-optical sight is used as a backup target tracking channel on the complex.
