In the Eastern Military District, the RPMK-1 (1B44) automated radio complex is being tested, which is a new and modern type of special equipment for determining various parameters of the atmosphere without or with their help. The complex operates in real time.
RPMK-1 "Smile" is a new radio direction-finding mobile complex for meteorological purposes, which performs humidity, wind and temperature sensing for transmitting the received data to anti-aircraft and field artillery systems, multiple launch rocket launchers, tactical missile systems, RChBZ units and airborne forces. Designed and created in the Peleng Design Bureau, the production is carried out by the Ural company "Vector". Today it is the most modern complex for providing military units with the necessary meteorological data. The Smile complex uses adaptive data processing and control methods. It implements elements of artificial intelligence.
Using different types of sounding, the complex operates at an altitude of up to 40 kilometers and a range of up to 200 kilometers. The team of the complex of 5 people will be able to bring it into a combat position within 600 seconds. The complex can be operated at temperatures from +40 to -40 degrees, with a relative humidity of up to 98 degrees and an altitude above sea level of up to 3 thousand kilometers.
Complex composition:
- the main vehicle with equipment based on the URAL-43203 chassis;
- a machine with an electric power station based on the URAL-43203 chassis;
- trailer for transportation of cylinders, made on the basis of chassis "1-P-2.5";
Main operating modes:
- radio direction finding mode. Used probes "MRZ-5", used output documents: "METEO-11/44" and "LAYER";
- radar mode. Used probes "MRZ-3/4", output documents: "STORM", "LAYER", "KN-4" and "SURFACE LAYER"
Main characteristics:
- "METEO" sounding height is 30 kilometers;
- the height of the "KN" sounding is 40 kilometers;
- "METEO" sounding range of 150 kilometers;
- range of "KN" sounding 200 kilometers;
- the team of the complex - 5 people;
- transition time from traveling to combat position - 600 seconds;
- MTBF - 210 hours;
- type of work secrecy - radio direction finding mode;
- used fuel - diesel.
P. S. It may seem that the methods used have remained "old-fashioned", but do not forget about the accuracy, speed and final cost of the complex. One thing is clear that binding to natural landmarks on the ground will provide better accuracy than foreign counterparts using satellites and modern electronics. The complex tried to combine all the best (old and new) in this area.
