The history of the creation of this vehicle begins with the agreements between the Russian Ministry of Defense, the KAMAZ company and the Italian IVECO on the possibilities of operating an armored army vehicle manufactured by IVECO in the units of the Russian Armed Forces, signed in 2008. In 2009, KAMAZ purchases two armored multifunctional vehicles "Iveco LMV" for testing. The price of one car is almost $ 400,000. The main reason for the acquisition of these particular machines is operation in more than 10 countries, good explosion protection and the interest of the top military leadership of Russia in this particular machine. At that time, there were no such machines in Russia that would satisfy the requirements of the military. Although the same armored transporter BTR-90, created in the 90s and accepted for supply in 2008, the military refused to take into service, calling it also a hopeless machine. And a foreign vehicle without any tenders and full-fledged tests is almost immediately put into operation of the RF Armed Forces.
We remember the indignation caused by this fact, which was supported by the tests carried out, where the Italian car loses to the domestic Tiger - the Iveco LMV could not stand the tests on the snow-covered off-road and crawled forward quietly, when the Gorky Tiger confidently "ran" the test section. Then the "interested" KAMAZ specialists made excuses that the bumper was too wide and that there was practically no protection for the pallet. They eliminated these identified miscalculations in the following samples.
The tiger, on the other hand, does not have the increased protection of class 6a, in contrast to the "Iveco LMV". But at one time, the military did not set requirements for the setting of such protection before the Gorky designers. It can also be quickly installed and "adopted" by a well-protected Tiger. After all, the Tiger of the SMP-2 model, created for the units of the internal troops, already has class 5 protection, and the army version remained without good armor - and after all, they serve the Motherland together and are used in military conflicts.
But back to Lynx. The situation with it became more and more intriguing - by 2010 two more vehicles were bought for testing (assembly from KAMAZ). At exhibitions "IVECO 65E19WM", only with the Russian name "Lynx", is shown only in closed expositions, where the fate of many samples is usually decided. In 2011, a dozen more cars were bought, which were assembled at KAMAZ. However, almost immediately KAMAZ refuses to participate in the joint project. According to the information provided to the public, the Italian company had problems with the license, because the equipment and units are assembled in several countries. After that, the military department itself became the "conductor" of the Iveco armored vehicles. In autumn, it appears at the exhibition under the "banners" of Oboronservis. But the Lynx was again unlucky, the armored vehicle could not cope with the tests and simply drove around many obstacles.
According to the general director of KAMAZ, in principle, the Italian IVECO is a very worthy car. Of course, it demanded some modifications for Russian reality, but this does not change the essence - the armored car "Lynx" of "KAMAZ", and now ministerial production is a very good machine for performing the required tasks. And the famous video about the explosion of the IVECO armored vehicle, to be honest, on the contrary, shows the reliable explosion protection of the vehicle. After all, if people in the car were injured or even killed, it was not from mine fragments, but from the depressurization of the car (open door). Let's look at the IVECO LMV vehicles that participated in real military conflicts, and those that failed to return - there are problems with explosion protection and bulletproof protection. In principle, of course, it is impossible, of course, to turn a light vehicle into a heavy tank, but, if possible, we should strive for this. Today at the Voronezh automobile repair plant of the Russian military department the assembly of domestic "Rysy" is taking place. The scope of work is very small - fastening the cargo compartments, hood, winch and spare wheel. Disassembled cars are delivered to the plant by auto trailers, two cars in one road carrier. In 2012, according to the announced plans, almost 60 cars will be assembled. In the future, more and more cars will be assembled every year. By 2020, the Russian armed forces will have to enter almost 1,800 "Rysy". If the situation does not change, then Russia will be the owner of the largest fleet of Italian cars "IVECO LMV" called Lynx.
One thing is not clear: according to available information, the contract value is about one billion dollars. The cost of one Lynx machine is more than 17 million rubles. This is despite the fact that the new BTR-82A costs just over 20 million rubles. The Tiger armored car costs just over 5 million rubles. I would like to hope that the top military leadership of Russia finally began to take care of ordinary soldiers and their comfort, and against the background of the Austrians, who also recently adopted Iveco LMV, the price of the domestic Lynx seems quite acceptable - the cost of the Austrian LMV is more 850 thousand euros.
An indicative moment in our case is the comparative tests of 6 samples of armored vehicles underway in the United States, among which the best will be chosen. But, by and large, the blame for the absence of explosion-proof machines lies only with the Russian military department, which, for some unknown reason, did not analyze the current situation and the use of such machines in ongoing military conflicts, and did not give the Russian military-industrial complex a task to develop explosion-proof machines. The tests of the "Bear" and "Typhoon" have only recently begun, but do it earlier….
The fate of the components for the armored vehicle "Lynx" is interesting. It is no secret that while they are completely foreign production (Germany and Italy), so in the end the car is still more expensive (a footboard for a Lynx costs 30 thousand rubles, a guard for a body heater 26 thousand rubles) - after all, the necessary spare parts are needed now and they cost hundreds one thousand dollars. It is planned in the near future to create joint ventures for their production according to the 50X50 formula with Italian and German firms. It is possible that the customs duty on sets of cars and their components will be canceled, which will reduce the cost, but so far these are only the nearest prospects.
