As you know, this year at the military parade in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Great Victory, which will traditionally be held on May 9 in Moscow on Red Square, will be shown for the first time samples of Russian advanced military equipment based on the Armata heavy tracked unified platform. This is the main tank T-14 (object 148) and the heavy infantry fighting vehicle T-15 (object 149), all the details of which are under the veil of strict secrecy. According to the photographs of the sketches that appeared on the Internet, presented at the private display of the exhibition "Innovation Day of the Ministry of Defense of Russia 2013", as well as according to other data leaked to the worldwide network, we can draw some conclusions on how the heavy BMP T-15 will look like.
So, apparently, the new heavy infantry fighting vehicle will have a booking comparable to the T-14 tank, which means its weight will be close to 50 tons. According to the sketch, the engine compartment will be located in the front to accommodate the crew and troops in a single highly protected armored capsule, which is one of the features of the layout of military equipment on the Armata platform. At the same time, all three crew members will have individual roof hatches and observation devices, and a ramp with a built-in door will be equipped in the stern for the entry and exit of the landing party.
The frontal projection will have maximum combined protection, which will protect the crew not only from bullets, shrapnel and small-caliber shells, but also from powerful ammunition from tank guns and anti-tank missiles. The vehicle will be sufficiently protected from other sides, which will apparently be achieved by shielding the habitable capsule with secondary units and the use of the most modern developments in the field of booking, including the use of high-energy polymer materials that will replace dynamic protection. The V-shape of the significantly reinforced bottom will reduce the likelihood of hitting the crew with mines or land mines.
In addition to this, according to the sketch, on the fenders in the nose of the vehicle, under special armored casings, an upgraded Arena-type active protection complex, first presented at the Russia Arms Expo 2013 exhibition, can be placed.
The armament of the heavy infantry fighting vehicle will be placed in an uninhabited combat module "Epoch" of circular rotation, located above the troop compartment. The photographs of the module itself and its schemes presented on the network show that it will use a 30-mm 2A42 automatic cannon with selective ammunition and a 7.62-mm machine gun paired with it, as well as two twin launchers for the Kornet ATGM. It was reported that the ammunition will consist of 500 rounds for a cannon, 2,000 rounds for a machine gun and four 9M133 anti-tank missiles. The computerized fire control system will include two multifunctional sights - one for the gunner, the other for the vehicle commander - as well as a radar station, an advanced sensor system and a two-plane weapon stabilizer. The target auto-tracking system will allow you to fire with high accuracy over the entire firing range from a standstill and in motion. The sights, judging by the photographs, have a large number of channels, and will largely duplicate each other, which is very important for remote use.
For a close view, the crew will use a so-called technical vision system, the cameras of which will transmit the image to the displays, creating a 360-degree view.
A feature of the combat module is that all its systems are autonomous and, together with the ammunition, are located inside the tower and, thus, are completely isolated from the manned compartment. In addition to weapons, the module is equipped with the Afghanit active protection system, laser radiation detection sensors and an optical-electronic countermeasure station.
Of course, the new BMP will be equipped with an information and control system based on the most modern element base, which will have to control all components and assemblies of the machine, diagnose malfunctions, and control on-board systems. Apparently, it will be integrated into a single unit with the automated control system by means of encrypted data transmission channels.
Most likely, workplaces will be equipped with comfortable anti-traumatic chairs and electronic displays. The possibility of continuous stay in an armored capsule for tens of hours will be realized, for which the car will be equipped with a filter ventilation unit, an air conditioning system, heating and a built-in bathroom.
High-life engine with a capacity of about 1500 hp. (probably the Chelyabinsk A-85-3A) and the systems serving it, as well as the transmission, will be located between the frontal armor protection and the habitable armored capsule. High power will allow a heavy car to accelerate to speeds of over 70 km / h. The undercarriage is six-point, most likely with a front drive wheel arrangement. Judging by the sketches, rollers from the T-90SM tank will be used. The active suspension will allow the vehicle to travel at high speed over rough terrain, as well as reduce crew fatigue and improve shooting accuracy.
