The Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile and cannon system will be put on alert in March-April 2011 to guard the skies of Moscow. Pantsir-C1 according to NATO classification SA-22 Greyhound (Greyhound) is a modern Russian self-propelled ground-based air defense missile system. The main purpose of covering military and civilian objects in close combat (including long-range air defense systems S-300, S-400) from all existing promising air attack weapons, including attack helicopters, UAVs, cruise missiles, high-precision bombs. The complex was created in 1994 and has been constantly modernized since then, the first Pantsir-C1 (10 pcs.) Entered service with the Russian army on March 18 of this year. It is expected that the complex will completely replace the Tunguska air defense missile system in the troops. Along with the S-400 air defense complex and the promising S-500 complex being developed, it should become the basis of the country's air defense by 2020.

ZRPK Pantsir-S1 is a short-range air defense system, placed on any chassis (truck chassis, tracked chassis) or stationary. Management is carried out by 2-3 operators. The complex performs its tasks with the help of automatic 30 mm. cannons and guided missiles with radio command guidance, IR and radio direction finding. The complex is able to cover civil and military objects (from platoon to regiment). The complex is capable of hitting targets with a minimal reflective surface (Stealth technology), moving at speeds up to 1000 m / s, at a maximum range of 20 km and an altitude of up to 15 km.

Complex operation

A special feature is the possibility of multichannel capture and target tracking with cannon and artillery weapons, which provide a continuous interception zone from 5 m in height and 200 m at a distance of up to 15 km. in height and 20 km in range, even without external support.

Modes of operation

Pantsir-C1 complexes can work together through digital communication means in different modes (up to 6 machines)

1) The complex can conduct combat operations alone, performing all actions from target detection to interception on its own

2) Operate as part of a battery: one of the complexes can be used both as a combat vehicle and as a command post, the rest of the complexes can be up to 5 pcs. can receive target designation from him for the performance of subsequent combat missions.

3) Actions as part of a battery with a command post and an early warning radar. Receiving information from the radar, the command post sends this data to the installations for subsequent tasks.

4) It can function in automatic mode, both as a separate combat unit and as part of a subunit.

Fire detection, tracking and control system

The fire control system for Pantsir-C1 includes a detection radar (based on a phased array) and two tracking radars (this radar system accompanies targets and surface-to-air missiles launched by the complex). Targets with an effective dispersion area of 2 square meters are detected at a distance of 32-36 km. In addition to the radar, the fire control system contains an optoelectronic complex equipped with a long-wave thermal receiver (IR direction finder) and carries out digital signal processing and automatic target tracking. A simplified and cheaper export version has only an optoelectronic fire control system. The radar and optical-electronic system allow to capture 2 targets simultaneously, the highest acquisition speed is 10 targets per minute.

Currently, it is known about the export portfolio of orders for the new Pantsir-C1 complex in the amount of 2.5 billion dollars, based on the cost, this is about 175 complexes.
