The Ukrainian Navy will receive four new Corvette-class ships by 2021. This, according to ITAR-TASS, said the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Mikhail Yezhel. According to the Minister of Defense, the total funding for the shipbuilding program will amount to UAH 16.22 billion ($ 2.44 billion). According to Kiev's plans, the head corvette of the series will be built in 2016 at the Nikolaev Black Sea shipyard.
The concept of a targeted defense program for the construction of corvette-class ships was approved by the Ukrainian government on March 9, 2011. The document provides for the construction of 4 ships of project 58250. The concept stipulates the creation of 10 corvettes, which should be part of the Ukrainian Navy. However, due to a lack of funds until 2021, only four corvettes of Project 58250 will be built. Over the next 4 months, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine should prepare a draft target program.

Since 2006, the project has been developed by the Nikolaev enterprise "Research and Design Center for Shipbuilding", in 2009 the commission of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine adopted the technical design of the Ukrainian multipurpose corvette (project 58250). The ship is more powerful than standard ships of the "corvette" class and in power approaches the ships of the "frigate" class. The ship will be able to fully perform the functions of anti-aircraft, anti-missile, anti-ship and anti-submarine defense. The appearance of the project indicates that stealth technology will be used during its implementation. The main weapon will be hidden inside the ship. The lead ship was named Gaidku, it was laid down in 2009, but construction has been frozen due to funding problems. According to the plan, 60% of it will consist of parts produced in Ukraine, the rest will be used for armaments purchased from NATO countries, where firms from Italy, Germany, France and Denmark will act as partners of Ukrainian shipbuilders. The ship is designed according to the principle of open architecture - that is, you can install not only Western weapons systems, but also Russian ones.
