The main purpose of the complex is to destroy lightly armored vehicles and enemy targets with a guided shot from self-propelled and towed artillery systems and 122mm guns of the 2S1 or D30 type. The target is hit by the laser illumination of the target designator rangefinder. The main targets for the complex of artillery guided weapons of caliber 122 mm KM3 "Kitolov-2M":

The main advantages over standard artillery ammunition are the production of fire without zeroing at specified targets from a closed-type firing position. From the first shot "Kitolov-2M" without zeroing is capable of hitting a target moving at a speed of 40 km / h. The complex is capable of significantly increasing the effective accuracy of artillery units of engaging various targets and objects using a semi-active laser homing head and the power of a high-explosive fragmentation warhead. When using the KM3 art complex "Kitolov-2M" does not need special storage and maintenance conditions.
