In 2004, the Turkish state-owned company MKEK (Makina ve Kimya Endustrisi Kurumu), for arming the Turkish army and security forces, as well as for export, began the development of a 7.62 mm sniper rifle. In May 2007, the new JNG 90 sniper rifle was presented at the IDEF 2007 exhibition (Turkey, Ankara). After minor modifications, the 7, 62-mm JNG 90 Bora rifle in 2008 began to enter service with the Turkish army.
Structurally, the rifle was made according to a fairly traditional scheme of samples of this class of weapons of its time, with a cantilever-hung barrel on an aluminum carrier stock, and a fully adjustable butt. The rifle mechanism was manually reloaded using a longitudinally sliding bolt. The fuse is located on the right side of the rifle.
The weapon is powered by ammunition from detachable box magazines with a capacity of 10 rounds.
The rifle barrel is equipped with a powerful muzzle brake.
The receiver is equipped with an integrated Picatinny rail. The JNG 90 Bora sniper rifle is standardly equipped with a variable magnification telescopic sight mounted on quick-release mounts on the universal receiver rail. The forend of the rifle is equipped with top and side universal rails for attaching additional accessories. At the bottom of the forearm there is a guide for installing folding bipods. The stock, as well as the handle, is made of impact-resistant plastic, equipped with an adjustable cheek piece, a butt pad and an additional leg. According to the developers, the JNG 90 sniper rifle surpassed all mass samples of this class produced in the West, providing an accuracy of about 0.3 arc minutes (0.3 MOA) at a distance of 100 meters using high-quality Lapua cartridges. In addition to the Turkish army, the JNG 90 Bora rifle was offered for export. In 2009, a batch of these rifles was purchased by Azerbaijan.
