An exhibition "Arms and Security-2019" was held in Ukraine. A landmark event in the military life of the country. Achievements of the Ukrainian defense-industrial complex are represented by 280 participants. It should be noted right away that some have achievements, while others have “achievements”. The largest expositions were shown as expected by Ukroboronprom and League of Defense Enterprises.
And not all developments should be taken lightly, since in reality, far from all Ukrainian military industrialists have let the wind go, including there is still a sufficient number of brains left for development in the country.
If you look seriously, tell me, can the Luch Design Bureau develop a missile? Maybe. Yes, starting from Soviet developments, but we are doing the same, in fact. So the development of a universal RK-10 is quite normal.
But today we're going to talk about abnormal development.
It will be about the development of the Kiev plant "Radar". The plant used to be called "Communist" for open sources and was known for its Jupiter tape recorders.
But, in addition to peaceful products, in the history of the plant there were very good developments: the Octopus search and sighting system for the Ka-27 and Ka-28 anti-submarine helicopters, various systems and reconnaissance and warning systems for the MiG-21, MiG-23 aircraft, MiG-29, Su-24 and Su-27.
But at the last exhibition "Radar" boasted a completely different development. Combat artificial intelligence.
Looking ahead, I will say that the Ukrainians have swung as much as possible to create competition with the Israeli "Iron Dome". Well, as usual in such cases - it is necessary to catch up and overtake.
So, as the director of "Radar" Vyacheslav Zelensky told a number of media outlets, the institute developed a system based on artificial intelligence. This AI system makes it possible to almost completely abandon human participation in combat.
We have already had the honor to observe artificial intelligence in the Ukrainian version. In the Verkhovna Rada. How they were able to adapt it to combat conditions is a very difficult and not entirely clear question, but nevertheless.
The director of Radar believes that man is the weakest point in modern weapons. A person can get tired, it is easy to disable him, but a computer can work flawlessly around the clock, 365 days a year.
A very, very controversial statement. From my point of view, in modern combat, it is just the computer that is more vulnerable, because, in addition to the types of weapons that can neutralize both a person and a computer (and they are actually the same), various types of methods of struggle have been invented specifically for computers that are not dangerous for a person.
Plus the dependence of the computer on power supplies. A computer, unlike a person, cannot be said: "It is necessary!" Take out and put in watts, otherwise nothing will happen.
But what is a Ukrainian AI system in terms of combat capabilities?
This miracle of technology is called VisionerAi. It is a computer system capable of detecting, classifying and recognizing high-speed flying objects and armored vehicles.
According to him, Vyacheslav Zelensky, VisionerAi can operate with any type of weapon, for example, with a 12.7 mm machine gun.
In general, a 12.7 mm machine gun is a serious weapon. But its danger to armored vehicles is conditional and is determined precisely by the degree of booking of this very equipment. And for work on "high-speed air targets" such a machine gun is even less adapted due to its low rate of fire. Checked.
The Ukrainians believe that artificially controlled 12.7-mm machine guns are capable of destroying the observation devices of any armored vehicle, completely "blinding" it.
To be honest, some kind of vision comes from almost the time of the Second World War. Tell me, why bang on the armor of a tank, even with large-caliber bullets, in order to "blind" it? Some kind of strategy for the Papuans, to be honest, because in any normal army, instead of “undressing” a tank from a machine gun, wasting precious time on it, they simply and naturally slam ATGM into it.
And that's it, there is no tank.
It is possible that for a civil war such an approach as voiced by the director of "Radar" is quite suitable.
What's with the filling? In her, too, everything is quite difficult. Zelensky's quote again:
“The product is equipped with high-resolution optical devices and a thermal imager. With this equipment, VisionerAi can detect an air target at a distance of up to 15 km and shoot any flying objects, including guided missiles and even shells launched by the Grad multiple launch rocket system. At the same time, VisionerAi can adjust its fire in such a way that the second shot will hit the target. Moreover, no more ammunition will be spent than is necessary to bring down the object."
Let's say that a thermal imager at 15 km will not see anything. Therefore, we immediately turn it off and set it aside. This is a short-range device. As well as a machine gun, by the way.
Let's take "Kord". Sighting range 2 km. Effective slightly less. To the point that the whole system can see something there from 15 km, zero. You will still have to wait for the detected and identified target to fall within the weapon's range.
Of course, if the observation will be carried out only with the help of optics, that's okay. Because if radars will also work in the system, no one has canceled the radiation sensors (developed by the same "Radar" at one time). And the target may simply not come within effective fire range.
In fact, everything looks even more humorous. According to the plans of Ukrainian specialists, up to 50 machine guns or automatic cannons controlled by VisionerAi can be placed in a certain place in positions.
All these 50 barrels will day and night destroy everything that passes, flies by or passes within their radius of action. As if in some kind of fantastic action movie.
And the person, who, after all, cannot be done without, will sit somewhere nearby in a shelter and observe the operation of the system using a tablet. And in which case, interfere with the operation of the system using a radio channel or wired communication.
Vulnerabilities - a carriage and two platforms. The radio channel is easily choked with the same electronic warfare means. This, sorry, is not Wifi in the apartment, here is the range (for 50 trunks!) And the power must be appropriate.
And that means - easily tracked and suppressed.
The wire connection was generally touched. That is, a company of signalmen will still be attached to the operator, who, under fire, will begin to change damaged wires …
It's powerful. It's not even the 21st century. Twenty third.
In general, a kind of fortified area is drawn, bristling with trunks, well, just like the Fortress in "Rambo-3". And the operators sitting behind the screens and controlling the situation.
By the way, an interesting question: who will change the belts in these 50 machine guns, also a computer? And the trunks in case the computer does not hit with three cartridges and the trigger "squeezes"?
That is, carriers of cartridges will still be needed for the company of signalmen. No, of course, you can also build a tape for 500+, no question.
But on the whole it somehow looks doubtful.
Actually, a carrier-recharger and a signalman are almost a calculation))) What are we saving?
Well, the most important question. I left it on purpose for a snack. This is the notorious reliability of Ukrainian weapons. Sorry, I don’t believe in an area stuffed with computerized machine guns. You neighbors cannot force the mortar to shoot approximately where it should be. And from the "Molotov" so far more people have died than outsiders.
And then suddenly - a computer with a machine gun …
And they don’t hesitate to say aloud that the “radar” is now working to make the “Shkval” combat module obey this VisionerAi. And this is still a 30-mm automatic cannon, 7, 62-mm machine gun and ATGM. Allegedly "Shkval" can be altered in such a way as to work fully automatically without human intervention.
Verily, blessed is he who believes. It has long been known that the production of 30-mm projectiles in Ukraine could not be established. As, however, and much more. That is, all this will be charged with the same Soviet-made projectiles, which are 30-40 years old …
And each installation will need to be accurately assigned to a technician who will deal with misfires and delays …
Nevertheless, Radar is very optimistic about the future. It is said that VisionerAi is allegedly very interested in some Arab states, as it seems to be capable of destroying drones. They even showed how the complex will do it.
The whole problem is that rockets and disposable drones, as in the case of the Saudis on September 14, will not be drawn, but quite real. They are not afraid of a cartoon.
It is very doubtful that in Ukraine they were able to do what, except for Israel, so far no one can do. After all, only the Iron Dome is capable of intercepting missiles with a fairly high efficiency (up to 85%), and it is unlikely that the Ukrainian system, being embodied in metal, will be able to surpass the Israeli one.
In addition, it should be noted that the Ukrainians are going to connect machine guns to their VisionerAi. The maximum is automatic cannons.
So if anyone is interested in such a system that controls archaic small arms, it is a few other Arabs. Just those who have a slightly different tactics of action.
But then again, it can take decades from word of development to release. The fact that today "Ukroboronprom" through the mouth of the director of "Radar" at the exhibition announced the creation of a combat system with seemingly artificial intelligence, this, forgive me, does not mean anything at all.
Why?
And what, "Oploty" - "Bulat" has already been shipped to all customers?
The same will happen with this VisionerAi, to which you can connect a bunch of machine guns.
