After the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite by the Soviet Union, the United States was faced with the task of confirming its leading position in the field of world technologies and, especially, in the field of weapons. In order to unite efforts in this direction, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) was created under the US Department of Defense in 1958. The new structure was tasked with developing new technologies for the American armed forces, informing the Pentagon in a timely manner about the emergence of new technical developments in other countries, and bringing scientific fundamental research closer to the field of their application in the field of weapons.
DARPA has 240 employees, of which 140 are technical specialists. Almost all DARPA projects are short-term (from 2 to 4 years). A dedicated team works on each project.
It cannot be said that the DARPA projects are fantastic, but the fact that the development is being carried out in the direction of ensuring the military, economic and political security of the country is undoubtedly.
To understand the essence of the developments, let us consider the projects implemented by the scientific and technical department.
