Israeli company "Israel Weapon Industries, Ltd." (IWI), founded about 9 years ago, after a series of reorganization procedures, works under the "wing" of the SK Group (not to be confused with the Asian holding of the same name). Israel's SK Group is Sami Katsava's holding, according to the website
IWI is involved in the development and production of various modifications of small arms that meet the needs of the Israeli military and police forces. The rifles produced by the company are widely recognized around the world for their versatility and impressive reliability. These rifles are used not only by professional shooters from the security forces, but also by connoisseurs of weapons from among civilians. It is for such connoisseurs that special civilian modifications of Israeli small arms are being developed, which are distributed in different countries: in North America, in the states of the Old World.
In Paris, at the EUROSATORY 2014 exhibition, which has become a real event not only for gunsmiths themselves, but also for small arms operators, IWI presented a new model - the DAN sniper rifle, featuring a sliding bolt. The peculiarity of this rifle is that during its production, the wishes and comments of the most experienced shooters, including those from the IDF sniper units, were taken into account. The Israeli police also had the opportunity to make certain adjustments when creating a prototype of this sniper rifle.
The developers analyzed several hundred wishes from the military, police and special services of Israel. And only after that they began to create a new sniper weapon. The new DAN rifle has, as already noted, a sliding bolt. The upper part of the receiver of this weapon is made of special steel with an increased coefficient of anti-corrosion resistance. The weapon is powered by.338 Lapua Magnum cartridges, which are housed in a detachable box-type magazine. The store's capacity cannot be called a record one. That's just 10 rounds. But ammunition is different in that the bullet fired after pulling the trigger has a very high energy.
The rifle is equipped with full-size Picatinny rails, on which you can install optics for accurate shooting at both stationary and moving targets. DAN developers have provided a special butt adjustable in different planes. The stock adjustment function allows you to make shooting comfortable in a variety of conditions. The stock is made of a fairly light metal alloy.
The DAN is held in the correct position using an ergonomic pistol grip that has been specially developed by CAA Tactical. The rifle barrel is almost 79 cm long. It is made using cold forging technology and is equipped with a flame arrester and a muzzle brake. Both the flame arrester and the muzzle brake are integrated into a single whole, and allow you to supplement the weapon with a special modular silencer.
The lower part of the receiver of the Israeli sniper rifle is made of an aluminum-based alloy. For the manufacture of the forend, the same alloy is used. At the same time, IWI keeps a secret about the exact composition of such an alloy so that competitors cannot use the company's developments for their own purposes.
In addition to the aforementioned full-size Picatinny rail, the weapon has several additional bars that allow you to equip the rifle with all kinds of tactical accessories. The trigger mechanism of the rifle is adjustable for a specific effort. The minimum effort is 1 kg, the maximum is 2 kg. The developers of the rifle speak of an impressive accuracy of fire: no more than 1 MOA (1 arc minute) from a distance of 1.2 km.
A manual symmetrical safety catch is located above the pistol grip and allows you to block the trigger.
