The patrol ship of project 22120 code "Purga" is a high-speed multipurpose ice-class coast guard ship, capable of keeping watch in the ice. The ship's hull is equipped with ice reinforcement, allowing it to overcome ice more than half a meter thick.
History
The patrol vessel pr. 22120, serial number 050, was laid down in the Almaz Marine Plant slipway in 2007 and launched in December 2009. The project was developed by the St. Petersburg Design Bureau Petrobalt by order of the Federal Customs Service of the Russian Federation. The Border Guard took an interest in financing the construction of the project. The lead vessel was handed over to the FSB Border Service on December 22, 2010. In the summer (June-July) 2011, at the Almaz SF, by order of the Coast Guard of the FSB Border Guard Service, it is planned to lay down a second ice-class patrol vessel of project 22120. According to Ilya Vadimovich Shcherbakov, chief designer of the Petrobalt design bureau, who oversees this project, the second vessel, received serial number 051, ordered by the UBO PS FSB, will be somewhat different from the head one - in particular, improved communications, auxiliary equipment, etc. will be installed.

Peculiarities
It was originally laid down as a large customs ship. The vessel is equipped with ice reinforcements, which ensure independent navigation in thin one-year ice up to 0.6 m thick during winter-spring navigation and up to 0.8 m thick during summer-autumn navigation. The planned duty station is in the Sakhalin Island area. In addition, it is equipped with a platform for a helicopter, which will be able to patrol large areas of the sea, as well as participate in the detention of border violators, drug dealers and poachers. The ship of the new type will be able to be based in the border waters of the Far East, the Gulf of Finland, as well as the Barents and Azov seas.
