The Irkut Corporation is completing flight tests of the first production model of the Yak-130 trainer and light combat trainer. Next month it is planned to take the second production aircraft into the air, and in 2005 the third flight prototype will join the tests. In addition, two more aircraft are used in static tests. The entire cycle of static and flight tests will be completed by the end of 2005.

During the tests, the take-off and landing characteristics, stability and controllability, the operation of aircraft systems and the power plant have already been verified. During the tests, a speed of 750 km / h, an overload of 5G and an altitude of 10,000 m were achieved. The Yak-130 is equipped with a reprogrammable remote control system with four-fold redundancy, which allows the aircraft to be used for basic and advanced training of pilots of all existing and prospective fighters.

Due to the presence of 9 external suspension points, providing the installation of up to 3 tons of payload (can include weapons, suspended fuel tanks, containers with weapon guidance systems, reconnaissance equipment, electronic countermeasures), the Yak-130 aircraft can also be used as a light combat training aircraft. In 2002, the Yak-130 won a tender from the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation for the supply of a training and light combat training aircraft for the Russian Air Force.
