Fennek is a joint German-Dutch BRM program for the development and production of a highly mobile, airborne, autonomous combat reconnaissance vehicle.

612 machines are produced in Germany and the Netherlands.

In Germany, the main manufacturer is Krauss-Maffei Wegmann GmbH & Co. KG is short for KMW.

Fennek, in fact, is a wheeled platform, on the basis of which up to 8 different types of combat vehicles can be implemented, depending on the tasks assigned.

Basic indicators:

Comparison of silhouettes: BRM LUCHS, BTR FUCHS, BRM FENNEK with an extended "sensor head"

total weight up to 12 tons, length = 5, 58 m, width 2, 55 m, height (on the roof) = 1, 79 m, airmobility: transporter type C-130.

Overcome slopes over 60%, slopes over 35%. The turning radius is 13 m. The ford to be overcome is 1 meter. Automatic tire pressure monitoring, drive: 4 × 4, engine 177 kW - aft, automatic gearbox + transfer case, maximum speed over 115 km / h, cruising range of about 1000 km on the highway or 460 km on the ground. Three crew members - driver, commander and radio operator / observer - can work autonomously for five days. Protection class: anti-bullet, anti-mine, improvised explosive devices.

The options are:

Combat missions: reconnaissance. Due to its low altitude and characteristics that provide extremely low visibility in the infrared and radar ranges, as well as low noise level, it optimally meets the requirements of reconnaissance operations behind enemy lines.

Features: remote to a height of 3, 30 m unit, equipped with a thermal imager sensor, CCD day vision camera and a laser rangefinder.

The unit on a tripod can be tilted to the sides, and can also be installed at a distance of up to 40 meters from the vehicle (switching and control via a CAM cable). BAA can identify and track targets day and night from a great distance. Observation and identification is provided by: a hybrid navigation system (GPS and Inertial Processing Unit (IRE)), a laser rangefinder and a control unit. The coordinates of the location of objects are processed by the control unit of the system and are automatically projected on a digital map of the area.

German troops use Command and Weapon Control Systems (FueWES), a universal interface that makes it easy to use alternative hardware and software capabilities of individual countries (NATO).

It can also be equipped with systems: soil vibration sensor (BSA), radiation monitoring equipment, mini-UAVs (Aladin) or remote mobile sensor systems (MoSeS).

Anti-tank missile transport vehicle

In the Dutch MRat version (medium-range PTR) -TZM rapid deployment, three missiles are located outside the hull and two more in the crew compartment.

The Command Fighting Vehicle and multifunctional variant for the Dutch AD troops (general services) is a versatile vehicle. At the site of the observation and reconnaissance equipment, material and means are located for use in various missions. Engineering units in Germany and the Netherlands received the first vehicles of this variant in 2005.

It was the first car of the Fennek family produced in the "artillery observer" version for testing the platform's capabilities. Since 2004, this system has been used with great success in the ISAF mission in Afghanistan by the Bundeswehr. A characteristic feature is the forced navigation system, which allows the target position in altitude and azimuth to be displayed with very high accuracy. The target designation and information received are redistributed to the EAGLE II artillery guidance system and to the artillery fire support officer. FueWES ADLER II Fennek performs control and necessary corrections. The artillery observer has an electronic map of the area for orientation.

For the German Bundeswehr, KMW supplied the JFST variant. A group (two Fennek), each consisting of artillery observers and an advanced air observer (FAC). JFST has extremely powerful new generation sensors with very high range, an additional channel for voice and data communication (radio channel) with the Air Force and Navy. The laser designator can also illuminate targets for the Air Force.

In this version, the Fennek is used primarily for reconnaissance and reconnaissance. Users enjoy virtually silent mobility, wide protection, self-defense ability, high level of autonomy and various equipment.

Modern mobile air defense system.

This variant (SWP) has a launcher with four Stinger missiles for mid-range air defense.

This machine is self-sufficient as a mobile air defense launcher; integration into a ground air defense system is also possible.

Air Force tactical support vehicle.

This variant is used as part of a tactical air strike command. The crew is responsible for target designation and guidance of tactical aircraft to ground targets.

The scalability revolution.

Operations in asymmetric scenarios require vehicles with excellent mobility and superior protection.

The Fennek 2 family meets this requirement and has a revolutionary drive concept.

The front and rear axles are equipped with two independent electronically controlled motors. This not only provides additional protection for vital components, but also makes the space between motors scalable, so a modular concept can be used.

From a 4x4 variant with 3 crew members to a 6x6 variant with various specific modules for the required missions.

The Fennek 2 family has a large number of identical components, so the logistical burden is significantly reduced.

The large usable volume of the Fennek 2 allows for the integration of various equipment.
